植田 麻由 （Mayu Ueda）

兵庫県神戸市生まれ、神戸市在住。
1998年以降、カラフルな色彩と不思議な形態でやきもの造形作品を制作し、関西を中心に各地で展示発表を行う。
2001年からは、アーティスト活動と並行して教員の職に従事する。
2006年から2018年まで神戸を拠点とするアートNPO法人C.A.P.(The Conference on Art and Art Projects)の活動に参加。C.A.P.クレイスタジオの立ち上げにも携わる。
2014~2015年、デンマーク、信楽、アメリカにて1年間、アーティスト・イン・レジデンスに参加。
2015年、滋賀県陶芸の森25周年記念事業ー国際陶芸ワークショップ・シンポジウムにパネリストとして参加する。
2016年、神戸市内六甲山麓に、野焼きや楽焼もできる屋外スペースを有する陶芸スタジオ「マユスタジオ」を設立。
石と土を共に焼いた「A Lump of Feelings」シリーズは、1995年の阪神淡路大震災での体験がきっかけとなっている。この大地震から家族を守った花崗岩の岩盤と、自身の作品素材である土との間に深いつながりがあることを知る。
焼くことで、石は「裂け、溶解」などの変化を起こし、土には「割れ、欠け」という現象が起こる。それが、触覚的テクスチャーへの関心を呼び起こし、自然(マテリアル)への畏敬が自分の根幹にあることに気付く。
うごめく形態、色彩が保有する温度、質感の機微という自らの心象を元に「自然(マテリアル)が、表現を成す」と感じている。
Mayu Ueda was born in Kobe, Japan. She received her MFA in Ceramics from Osaka Art University in 2000, after which she has spent over a decade teaching ceramics and art. During that time, she continued exhibiting her work at various venues throughout Japan. In 2016, she established Mayu Studio in Kobe, a ceramic studio with a large outdoor space where she does pit as well as raku firings. There, she creates her own work while offering clay and art classes to local residents of all ages.
In 1995, while attending the Osaka University of Arts as an undergraduate student, the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake hit her hometown. Her current series, A Lump of Feelings, is grounded in her experience of this natural disaster. After seeing the deep connection between the bedrock of granite, which protected her family from the monstrous earthquake, and her own chosen art material, clay became a medium through which she could negotiate her thoughts and emotions about the existence of human life on earth.
