Maria Solimin (b. 1997, Indonesia) is a contemporary artist. Within unsettling yet serene settings, her paintings offer a safe space for her fantasy creatures to exist in their rawest form, which can be daunting. Yet, their whimsical charm invites us to face them with curiosity rather than fear. Each creature mirrors the complexity of human nature, unveiling the buried emotions, longings, and the psychological dilemmas that are often hidden deep within us. For 2026 Unknown Asia, she will showcase a series of paintings inspired by Japanese cultural concepts with the native flora and fauna.
She learned to intertwine mental health research with fantasy world-building during her final project at NAFA Singapore. She showcased her original character, Carrot is Wortel, at international illustration fairs, before introducing her fantasy creatures to the public as paintings in a trio exhibition, which led to further showcases at fine art fairs. - 略歴・受賞Career / Prize
