M.S. Alwi is an artist based in Jakarta with roots in Banda Neira. His practice spans sculpture, video, and sound, often exploring Indonesian occult culture and folk stories from both Indonesia and abroad. He connects traditional narratives with contemporary issues, examining how belief and memory shape social life.
Currently, Alwi is exploring the use of paperclay, working with recycled paper to create sculptural forms. This direction reflects his interest in material experimentation and sustainability while maintaining a strong link to storytelling and cultural research.
In 2025, he founded Banda Artepelago, an art space and residency in Banda Neira that supports artistic exchange and dialogue. His works have been presented at the National Gallery of Indonesia, Indonesia Contemporary Art and Design 2022 (ICAD 22), and in 2025 at Geneva Graduate Institute. - 略歴・受賞Career / Prize
