Rubi (b. 1990) is an Indonesian artist based in Singapore, who holds a Bachelor of Visual Art (Theory of Art & Design) and Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Rubi has always been fascinated by the various cultures and spiritual beliefs of Indonesia and Southeast Asian antiquities and ethnological materials. Her interest was cultivated during her years volunteering in National Museum of Indonesia and was further developed when she took her Masters in Cultural Materials Conservation from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Rubi creates intimate sketches and watercolour paintings as a means of expressing her sentimentality for the past and fondness for spirituality as a powerful dimension in human lives and experiences. Her paintings also act as documentations of her vivid recurring dreams typically decorated with lush sceneries and female personages.
